SEO Case Study: DSST

DSST is a nationally recognized program that offers students and military personnel a cost effective, time-saving way to receive college credits outside the traditional classroom. Each exam administered will accelerate degree completion and further education and careers.


DSST shares a crowded space with a number of similarly large, well-established, credit-by-exam and test preparation competitors.
Social Fulcrum’s challenge was to increase visibility in organic search results, and to drive organic traffic to DSST’s blog.


In order to generate unique organic search visits, we leveraged content production through the DSST Blog. This encompassed several action items:

  • Performed comprehensive quantitative research on keywords from multiple data sources and employed our ranking algorithm to prioritize opportunities
  • Created optimized content designed to capture organic traffic
  • Established content partnerships with universities, tutoring, career and education planning and test prep services, and independent educators
  • Published content focused on bringing value to users, for instance by informing potential test takers of tips and tricks to prepare for DSST exams
  • Undertook influencer outreach to improve DSST’s online visibility
