Practical Tactical, Part 2 – Word of Mouth Marketing Tactics Continued
by Andrew Krebs-Smith | January 11
This is our second post in a series designed to give our readers greater insight into the tactics behind word of mouth marketing and social media tools and strategies. Let us know if you have questions or comments below the post.
Online Forum Outreach – This involves reaching out to moderators of online forums or members themselves to promote an offer that pertains to them. Depending on the situation, this can involve creating ‘threads’ (discussions), sending private messages, or replying to comments.
Online Forum Paid Stickys – Forums often allow users to purchase online “real estate” at the most prominent section of the forum, with a paid message from a brand. Similar to paid tweets. This is typically more credible than banner advertising but less credible than posts from moderators or ambassadors. Offerings should either be widely appealing or tailored as much as possible to the specific online community.
Facebook advertising – Facebook advertising allows companies to target consumers based on their location, age, and interests (among other parameters). This revolutionary option allows health clubs to target people who like Jenny Craig, Furniture stores to target people who like antiques, and so on and so forth. Facebook advertising is ideal for leveraging low budgets, and can be used creatively to relate more than ever before to the viewers of the ads (because of the ability to tailor the message to narrow audience sectors).
Influencer Seeding – The best viral marketing campaigns are no accident, and can be orchestrated with a subtle outreach to the “movers and shakers” of the web. Working on a smaller scale? Viral doesn’t need to be your goal – these influencers are still highly respected in their communities (plumbers, snowboarders, musicians, etc) and seeding these influencers with your content, product, or offer can get your message to spread within those communities very quickly.
Social Networking on Steroids – We like to differentiate this tactic from simply “using social media.” Creating an account means that you are using social media, but it doesn’t mean that you are getting the most out of it. We set up tools that help track progress and find you audience. We actively search for tweets relating to your brand. We edit your profile so that it drives conversions to a specific goal. We help craft messages that resonate with your audience and induce clicks. In short, we apply our expertise to your current profiles to achieve greater awareness, network size, message distribution, and conversion rates. Best of all, it’s all trackable. You get our proprietary monthly report showing you important comments, opportunities seized, threats mitigated, fans gained, clicks to your website, and more.
